they took blood four times over four hours, and i had an additional pathology blood test to check something else, not sure what. i sat opposite a guy with tattoos, who looked about 65 but when he gave his birthday he was only 48. scary. they couldn't find a vein in him either but he was manly about it. mum kept standing in my view so i wouldn't peer at other people, which is apparently rude but also interesting. they never seemed to close doors anyway, so people kept peering and grinning at me. according to the nurse that's a good sign. i don't know why.
then they took photos of my kidneys eating radioactive medicine, which mum reported as exciting, but i couldn't see. it wasn't noisy or claustrophobic under the camera like in the mri machine so that was good.
ok, one day down. chemo still not scheduled. peter mac very chaotic. more tomorrow.

A man called Mark? Come on, Mark just isn't a believable name for a 'fixer'. Marco, maybe.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good sign, you know, when everyone smiles. It means you don't look as bad as you think you do... or you look real bad and they're trying to cheer you up. Either way, positivity will get you places, Jessica, so don't let the retarded nurses with bad aim scare you too much.
Don't take any notice of your Mum's protests - spy all you like. You may as well, because EVERYONE is spying on you. Take a cue from Mr Michael Douglas: just like he keeps up to date on all the happenings with his huge mobile phone, you must keep yourself clued-up on all the to-ings and fro-ings around the Peter Mac place. Hospitals are full of gossip, from patients and nurses alike.
xo
ska here,
ReplyDeletema keeps forwarding me emails from yo ma with updates....mind if i chuck her this link?
lemme know when your up for trivial pursuit...
do you stay in hosp long enough for visits?
omg, this has live journal as a profile...do you use it anymore?
is it bad that when i saw GFR my first thought was GHR for Guitar Highway Rose? That girl in the book always made me think of you ironically, i think because you could always pull off the 90s lingerie slip dress with doc martens look and i never could. i tried to once, i dont think i made it out of the house.
ReplyDelete-mit
oh, spy all you like! so fun. i don't care if it's rude, what else are you meant to do?
ReplyDeletekatja
Conversely, my mother has always been the one spying. Somewhat awkward when you're trying to enjoy your latte in peace and the couple sitting next to you is arguing; all the while mum staring googly eyed and following said argument as one might watch a tennis match...
ReplyDeleteshe has also spent some time in Peter Mac so I imagine the creepy watching she did there was of epic proportions. Go right ahead my dear. Other people are for our entertainment!
In a more serious sentiment, thinking of you. I know I haven't seen you in about a billion years but I was really sad and (fucking pissed off, frankly!) to hear about this. The fickle nature of this horrid disease never fails to astound me - it shows no discernment over who it chooses, snide little thing.
Will be following your experience and recovery my dear xoxox lots of love, kiloran
As much as i giggled about your near-fainting experience, i think i felt more for the nurse who missed!!! (that is ALWAYS me missing veins and hurting patients, its very embarassing and emotionally painful!!)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're in charged spirts Jess- there's nothing like a grin and a glass half full (of gin?) to make things easier to deal with (and i suspect about a milion friends all sending amazingly positive vibes your way).
Befriend a nurse! As Steve said, there is no end to the gossip...or the extra jelly.
Love, Greta
